Malia is a small town 35 kilometers east of Heraklion. It is a cosmopolitan tourist center that perfectly combines the modern with the traditional world.

The archaeological site of Malia is located in a wonderful natural location near the sea. It is a Minoan palace which was destroyed at the same time as the palace of Knossos, in 1700 BC. It is believed that Sarpidon, son of Zeus and Europa, lived there, and it is an attraction for thousands of visitors.
